Detox with QiGong

How does Qigong move toxin out of your body and mind?

Clearing the toxins out of your body and mind is as important as brushing your teeth. If you don’t brush your teeth every day then stain builds up. If you don’t detox your body then toxins build up.  and darken your sense of wellbeing. In a healthy state, organs such as the liver, kidneys, bladder and intestines work in harmony together to get rid of the body toxins.

The liver has many functions, including filtering toxins and waste products from the blood and producing chemicals that break down fat. In Chinese medicine theory, the liver is associated with the Wood element. A powerful, simple way for keeping the liver strong and clean is to promote the Qi (vital energy) flow with SELF-TAPPING QIGONG.

The kidneys filter the blood and produce urine, which is stored in the bladder for discharge. Proper functioning of the kidneys and bladder prevent the buildup of waste and extra fluid in the body, especially in the bloodstream. Healthy kidneys are also important for keeping the levels of electrolytes stable, such as sodium, potassium, and phosphate, making hormones that help regulate blood pressure, making red blood cells and helping the bones stay strong. There is a specific session in the EIGHT SILKEN MOVEMENT QIGONG dedicated to strengthen the kidney energy.

The intestines are a long, continuous tube running from the stomach to the anus. The major functions of the intestines are to absorb nutrients but the large intestine has an additional responsibility of eliminating the waste in your body.  If the faeces remain in the bowel for too long then toxins will be released into the body. Some Qigong techniques improve the health of the intestines and regulate the bowel movements.

Apart from the organs described above, the lymphatic system plays a key role in eliminating waste products and toxins in your body. Unlike the circulatory system, which has the heart to pump blood through the system, the lymphatic system does not have a pump. The lymph is moved through the lymphatic vessels by contractions of the lymphatic vessels and the surrounding skeletal muscles. Qigong, especially the physical movements, can foster the circulation of your lymph and remove the blockage in the lymphatic system.

On the other hand, non-material toxins can affect your wellbeing as well. When negative feelings such as fear, sadness and loneliness block the free flow of Qi you need to create more ‘space’ for the stagnate energy to move. Stretching, as a main part of Qigong exercises, is one of the most natural ways to achieve this.

When excessive emotions such as stress, anxious and anger interrupt the normal Qi flow you need to settle this “rebellious” energy.  STILLNESS QIGONG is a very effective practice to regulate the Qi flow by calming your mind and relaxing your body.

Our next QiGong Course is starting at 9:30am on Tuesday Oct 10th.
